FCCLA-HERO History

Minnesota FCCLA-HERO was developed in 1971 under the name Minnesota Association of H.E.A.R.T. (Home Economics and Related Training.)  The focus of this student organization is to provide leadership opportunities for students in service occupations programs.  H.E.A.R.T. later changed its name to HERO in 1981. In 2001, under the name of FCCLA-HERO, it chose to become part of the National FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) which was formally FHA/HERO.  Being part of FCCLA provides national leadership opportunities for occupational students.  Minnesota FCCLA-HERO remains a separate organization from Minnesota FCCLA (FLA/FHA) which allows us to focus on the uniqueness of the service occupations programs.
