WHAT IS RED RIBBON WEEK?
It is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs.  Show your personal commitment to a drug-free lifestyle through the symbol of the Red Ribbon, October 23-31st.

WHY? The Red Ribbon Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered Kiki Camarena, a DEA agent, in 1985.  This began the continuing tradition and displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs.  The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment toward the creation of a DRUG-FREE AMERICA.

FCCLA supports a healthy, drug free lifestyle.  As FCCLA members you can help make a difference by participating in Red Ribbon Week and showing that you are drug and alcohol free youth.  Red Ribbon Week is October 23-31, 2006.  Since its beginning in 1986, the Red Ribbon Celebration has touched the lives of more and more people each year.  The Red Ribbon is a catalyst and symbol for millions of Americans who show that they are united for drug free youth.  Annually, October 23-31, 2006, millions of young people and adults celebrate a healthy, drug-free life by wearing or displaying a Red Ribbon during the Red Ribbon Celebration.  Since 1988, National Family Partnership has provided national leadership for this exciting event.  This nationwide celebration has become a major force for raising public awareness and mobilizing communities to combat alcohol and drug use among youth.  For more information contact Ileana Reyes - ireyes@informedfamilies.org or call (305) 856 - 4886.
